On July 24, 2025, the Centre for Civil Education in Vilnius hosted the opening of the special anniversary exhibition “An Inexhaustible Source: Nine Decades of the Lithuanian Folklore Archive”, attracting a wide audience of folklore enthusiasts and researchers.
The event featured greetings from representatives of the Office of the President of Lithuania and the Lithuanian Literature and Folklore Institute, as well as an overview of the Archive’s history by its current department head. Experts shared insights on the principles of folklore collection, and reflections were offered on the Archive’s founding and its first director.
The opening was accompanied by traditional music performances: kanklės and ritual songs presented by professional musicians and researchers from the Folklore Archive. The exhibition’s design was created by leading Lithuanian designers in collaboration with the curatorial team.
The exhibition celebrates the 90th anniversary of the Lithuanian Folklore Archive and offers a journey into the world of Lithuanian folklore. It tells the story of the generations who have collected and preserved folk knowledge over decades, as well as the individuals who continue to open their homes to share their traditions, songs, and stories. Visitors can explore manuscripts, audio and video recordings, and authentic historical objects, discovering how folklore connects the wisdom of the past with everyday life today.
The exhibition will be on view at the Centre for Civil Education until December 2025.
